Dr Steier`s medical education started in Leipzig/Saxony, Germany and lead him over Zurich and the UAB in Alabama to Bavaria and the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. His research interest in respiratory physiology and sleep-disordered breathing triggered a stay in London supported by a long-term research fellowship from the European Respiratory Society (ERS).
His current research is focused on novel treatment options for sleep apnoea and patient based biomarkers of respiratory symptoms. Besides his scientific publications he has published a text book about lung function testing and he conducts supporting research in public health for the British Lung Foundation and their sleep apnoea awareness campaign.
